Burning Man :: Release Is Live!

Wow. Watching your film now. The music and imagery is SUBLIME brother. Wow. Mediated ecstasy. Love it.

Please note: This is a personal video made under the Burning Man Personal Use Media guidelines, not intended for promotional or commercial use.

As much as Burning Man is a unique, moving and fun experience, it’s also about the tremendous effort involved getting there, setting up, and existing for a week in the desert. And then the RELEASE!

The most powerful moment for me was on the Playa after a heavy night when we all sat in a circle and talked about the most difficult stuff that happened to us in our lives. We released our pain into the the sacred land and I still feel that moment to this day.

And then we all boogied to the sun coming up and there was a dancing… well… I’ll let you wait for that part. 🙂

So… welcome… finally to the release of Burning Man :: Release! I created the movie as a kind of 15 minute meditation and it even begins with a meditation bell. If you like it, please leave a comment below!

Disclaimer: Sensitivity to participants

Putting together a project like Burning Man :: Release! is a fierce undertaking. It could go wrong at any stage. If someone doesn’t like the way their nose wriggles in a shot, it can collapse an entire sequence. But sometimes you just have to go for it… because when it works… it’s a great collaborative effort!

I’ve done my best to be sensitive to people and places and used my best judgment to not allow anything in which could harm anyone in the outside world. Please can I also ask use to use your best judgment before asking for any changes to be made. If I cater to one I have to cater for all which could ruin the integrity of the piece.

Disclaimer: Fair Use Act for soundtracks

I believe this use of the copyrighted material qualifies as fair use under 17 USC § 107 because this is a non-commercial video for Burning Man and is not meant to be a substitute for the original music tracks or allow them to be passed off as my own material. All music credits have been given at the end of the film. If you do need to get in touch with me directly you can do so here.

The Fair Use act is based on 4 criteria:

  1. The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes.
  2. The nature of the copyrighted work.
  3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole.
  4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
